Computer Issues
The Village is sad to announce that our computer has died. It wouldn't start up last Friday, which was the day that the bills were to be run. We took it over to CMJ IT Solutions in Sycamore late last Friday afternoon and they informed us on Wednesday of this week that Windows was corrupted and the computer could not be repaired. We are contracting with CMJ to build us a new desktop as well as a laptop to have as a backup in case anything like this happens again. Thankfully they were able to save copies of all our files and they are in the process of transferring those files to a computer that the Village of Hillcrest was gracious enough to give us. That computer was dropped off at CMJ yesterday morning and per the most recent update, the files are still trasnferring and we should have the temporary computer sometime next week. We have contacted CMJ and they said the computer should be ready to pick up on Monday 10/5/26.
As a result, the Village cannot run the water bills at this time. We can't do much of anything as we don't have a computer that has all of the programs and files we need to do our work. This situation made us realize how important it is to have a backup and that is why we are ordering the laptop in addition to the desktop. The readings for the bills have already been done and entered into the system, so the delay won't impact the amounts of your bills. It will only impact when you receive them. The clerk will be out of state on vacation next week, so the earliest the bills can be run would be Monday 10/12/26.
We apologize for the inconvenience and we also appreciate your patience. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.
